A new Champagne only binds to our archive. It’s him G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Millesime 2004, an edition coming to Spain for the first time and that the maison wants to share in a special way.
This edition of 2004, its Millesime, Special, unique according to them, is the result of a cuvee of vintage, unique decision making of Didier Mariotti, the chef de cave. Only when he observes that a crop is outstanding, it is vinified and mature separately to produce a different Champagne, almost spoiled.
The year 2004 was of contrasts in the weather, especially in the villages of the Mountain of Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Marked by a dry and warm spring with good Sun, followed by a hot and dry summer. In September, the ripeness of the grape everything seemed that it clarified. 2004 would be a year of vintage. Vintage even was delayed a few days to gain some tenths of alcohol, up to 9.8%.
For this G.H. Mumm Champagne the grapes were Pinot Noir, historical strain of the maison, enhanced by Chardonnay. A perfect way to start the fall with a single edition of a remarkable vintage.
